Gina Occhiogrosso was born in Huntington LI, but soon after her family moved to Niskayuna, NY just outside Albany. After several years of relocations, she presently resides in Troy, NY. She received her BFA in painting from Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Later she received her MFA in painting from The State University of New York at Buffalo, where she received the Morrison Memorial Scholarship for the Arts, a Teaching Assistantship, and the Mark Diamond Research Grant.
Her nationwide group exhibition experience includes Lehman College Art Gallery , Bronx, NY, MIA Miami International Airport Gallery, Hallwalls, Buffalo, NY, and The Three Rivers Arts Festival, Pittsburgh, PA., as well as Paper in Particular National Exhibit , Columbia College, Missouri. Gina has been featured in numerous local regional exhibitions as well as The Mohawk Hudson Regional. She has had several one-person shows which include Saratoga Arts Council Gallery, Amrose Sable Gallery, Albany, NY, Lake George Project for the Arts, Yates Gallery at Siena College Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Rensselaer County Council for the Arts(RCCA). Her work may be viewed in the Pierogi Flat files, in Brooklyn, New York and through registries such as The Drawing Center and Nurture Art. Throughout her career Gina has been given four Special Opportunity Stipends from The New York Foundation for the Arts.
In the summer of 1992, Gina was honored with a stay at The Millay Colony for the Arts.
In 1996 two of her works were featured in Creative Collage by Jennifer Atkinson from Rockport Books (p.40).
Her Teaching experience includes a one-year Visiting Assistant Professorship 1998-1999 at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA. , an Adjunct Professor(1995-1998) at Russel Sage College, The College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY, one-year extended part-time professor at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) (1992-1993), and one year as a Teaching Assistant at The State University of New York at Buffalo (1990-1991).
Gina was the gallery director for The Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy, NY from 2000- 2006, when she left to take a full time teaching position at The College of Saint Rose.
